Antique, Vintage, and Design Buying

What services do you offer? Riad offers a comprehensive antique, vintage, and design shopping service (personal shopper) at the stores and boutiques of Paris and the Paris Saint Ouen Flea Market and at the shows, markets, fairs, private warehouses throughout France.

What defines an antique; what defines vintage?
 An antique is an item that is at least 100 years old. A vintage item is less than 50 years old.

What do you mean by “design” furniture?
 A design item is a piece that was crafted between 1940 and 1970.

Is there a high season or low season for buying antiques?
 There is no high or low season for buying antiques in France. You can book your shopping tour with Riad for any time of the year, as antiques dealers hunt for one-of-a-kind pieces all  year long, throughout the French countryside and abroad.

How can I make sure that an item is authentic?
 Riad Kneife employs his considerable experience in art history and antiques in order to carefully verify the authenticity of all items before purchase.
 Since the beginning of his career, none of his clients has ever returned an item.

Packaging and Shipping

What is the size of a 20 and 40 feet container?
 A 20ft shipping container capacity is 1,170 cubic feet or 33 cubic meters. A 40ft shipping container capacity is 2,390 cubic feet or 67 cubic meters.

How is packing handled? 
Riad uses transporters with 60 years of experience in the specialized packing and shipping of antiques and fine art. He uses one of the only shipping companies that is approved by the French Ministry of Transport.

What are my shipping options?
 Worldwide shipping is available, with a full range of door-to-door shipping possibilities: air or sea freight, either in consolidated or individual containers.

What kind of insurance do you provide?
 Insurance is available at competitive rates and includes coverage for total damage and for lost or broken items.

Payment

What about sales and import taxes?
 The sales tax is charged to the customer. For any items over 100 years old, there are no taxes to pay in the United States of America except a few states.

When is my payment due for the services?
 Payment must be received at least two weeks before the tour by wire. We are unable to charge credit cards from overseas.

When is my payment due for my purchases?
 Clients may pay on site with cash, a Visa card or Mastercard (most commonly accepted), or an American Express card. Clients may also send a deposit prior to the tour, making it easier for Riad to set potential purchases aside at the market. Finally, clients may also pay within 10 business days after their return to their country.

What forms of payment do you accept? 
Cash and wire transfers. The net payment cannot include banking fees.

What forms of currency do you accept? 
All payments must be made in Euros.
